Can I Pick Your Nose?

I've only picked one other nose beside my own. Sam's. In fact, I've got him trained! I say "You got a booger!" And he'll hold real still and let me get it. Then I show it to him and he smiles. We put it in a kleenex and throw it away.
After all, I don't want him wiping it on the wall like I did when I was a kid!

I Love Lamp Awards and other randomness

Ok no one got 1000 points for the I Love Lamp Tshirt. It's from the movie Anchorman. It may disappoint some of you to know that I found that movie absolutely over the top and hilarious. You may have thought I have more class than that, but you would be mistaken. One person emailed me but she doesn't get any points because I've forced her to watch Anchorman with me before and she's witnessed that I have nearly wet my pants laughing at Brick.

Here's the Best of Brick if you're interested:

The I Love Lamp Scene is in there a little over half way through but some of the other lines are so funny I chose that clip to give you a good "feel" for his character.

I also wanted to give a shout out to Little David since I don't seem to have your email. Mr. Sam is not yet walking, but he gets around the living room hanging on to things and crawls like a maniac. He especially enjoys standing at a table or couch "reading" his books and talking to himself in his own made up language. It's so cute!

Things That Make You Wish You Had A Camera

The other day, Sam and I were out walking and as we walked, I heard the Neighborhood Bagpiper playing away. You know how loud those things are, they can be heard for blocks and blocks, so I didn't really expect an actual visual on the guy. I don't think I've told you about the Neighborhood Bagpiper. I used to think it was just a person who played ridiculously loud bagpipe music on his stereo - loud enough for us to hear it 2 blocks away! I would hear it walking to the grocery store mainly, and I deduced that he lived near there. Later I found out that he does live there, since someone I know has had some interaction with him in the past. And I also found out that it wasn't a stereo, it was actual bagpipes, droning away for hours out in his yard.
But last week, I witnessed one of the most unusal events I have seen/heard in my entire life. Bagpiper was playing his bagpipes while SKATEBOARDING down the middle of Milton Avenue!! Past the Park, and into the neighborhood. Incidentally stopping traffic and letting out an occasional WHOOOP WHOOOOOOOP! I think he was having a good time. It was incredible. He had a HUGE audience, as the park was full and there were many people out and about. Maybe it was his celebration of the wonderful weather!
Oh, I SO wished I had a camera!

I Love Lamp

If you get it you get 1000 points!! WEEEEE!!! If you get the joke, not the t-shirt! So don't go buying the T shirt and then think you're getting 1000 points.
Unless of course you get it for ME, and then I'll give you a GAZILLION points!
(do you think they have one that says I Pooped A Hammer?)

Stinky Rubber Chips

There is a park nearby that has rubber woodchips. You've probably seen them, they look like wood but they're made from old tires. At first I thought it was a great idea. They don't harbor insects, they don't break down very fast, they reuse a product we use a lot of so that they're not filling up our landfills and they don't use up Trees! But man oh man does that stuff STINK!!! So I started hating the rubber chips since each time walking by on a hot summer day my nostrils had to bear the stench of them.
But now I love them. Because yesterday, Sam was playing on a boingy green froggy playground toy. Having a blast! Doing so well and I was right there then he let go and the boingy frog FLUNG him! So fast I couldn't catch him! Right then and there I saw the light and I was converted. Rubber chips on playgrounds over a layer of sand is GREAT!! Sam was fine, he cried a little because I'm sure it hurt some and scared him a lot but it was all over in a minute or so. I couldn't help thinking how bad it could have been with dirt or woodchips!
I will now sing psalms of praises to those stinky rubber chips!

Diapers and Silence

Today I realized that I'm finally over the amazement of Sam sleeping through the nights finally. Except of course last night he pooped his diaper in the middle of the night. But I expect there will always be something like that. What I mean is not having to feed him during the night.

However, changing a poopy diaper in a dim room with no glasses on is not a good idea. I'll leave it at that.
Thank goodness he doesn't do that very often.

So I have a 4 day silent retreat coming up for my class next month. Last night I had a dream that I was journalling at the "wrong" times and a friend of mine showed up dressed like a Shiek. I was glad to see him but also aware that it would look really strange for me to have a male visitor alone in my room in a retreat center when I was supposed to be alone. Also, a good friend showed up with a big hug for me which I desperately needed because I was feeling quite anxious and lost trying to get from one part of the property to another. At one point the path flooded and I had to wade through muddy water. I stumbled upon a shack full of people from college who were staying up smoking and drinking. I hung out with them having a great time but next thing I knew it was the next morning. I hadn't slept and I was worried about making it to my appointment with my director. The last thing I remember was trying to get poop out of the treads of Sam's shoes! (remnant of diaper incident earlier in the night) Sister Virginia was telling me that was not an appropriate thing to do on a Silent Retreat.
So, hm. I might just be a tiny bit anxious about this thing, ya think?
I've done 1 and 2 day silent retreats but never 4. And I've never been away from Sam for even a whole 24 hours! Gonna be interesting.....

Of Definitions and Onion Breath

And here it is, folks!

The Definition of Captain Wow!

When I first chose the title for this blog, it wasn't anything like that. I googled Captain Wow back then and only came up with a small Rock Band. Now, if you google Captain Wow, there are lots of choices. The Urban Dicitionary Definition is definitely a bit fitting though.

This afternoon I was blowing in Sam's face. He likes that. I suddenly thought how absurd it would be if we did that to each other to for fun!

Hold the Onions, please!

Random Ramblings

It's WINDY today. March was going to go out like a Lion but it got stage fright and now April is coming IN like a Lion.

The violets are bloomin like mad in the back yard. We have this section where they are thick and wonderful. They went berzerk after we weeded that area and left just the violets!! They SMELL WONDERFUL! I had no idea Violets had such a nice smell.

I'm enjoying doing the tour of the yard every few days to see what's peeking up through the soil and what's starting to show hopes of blooming. What survived the winter and what did not. Soon I guess I'll have to do some actual work out there.

Sam has been "high maintenance" today Usually he's pretty easy going. Must be teething. There are 4 eye teeth that have been trying to come in for months now... always teething poor guy. Some days seem harder for him than others. So, He's in his bizzy seat, happily watching Baby Einstein. I have dinner in the oven and I'm taking a break. ::sigh:: feels great.

Incidentally, dinner is a "breakfast casserole" that I am experimenting with tonight. I'm putting that healthy choice smoked sausage and asparagus in it instead of breakfast sausage and - well no vegetables! Should be good I think.

Discovered little freeze dried apple cubes for Sam at the grocery store. OH MAN. He loves them. So do I, which could be unfortunate for him if I'm not careful!

It's snowing and 27 out. Yesterday it was 70. We went for a walk at Aquinas and observed all the byoootiful daffodils and other flowers. Sam got to tug on a branch that made a whole BIGGER branch dance and sway. This was big entertainment for quite some time!

We're going to a family gathering for Easter. I've never been to a family gathering without my mom. Can you believe that? So we're going, and it should be fun. Sam has a cousin close to his age, hopefully he'll be there and they can play! WEEE!!

And I probably won't post until after Easter, because I just don't seem to get to it all that much these days, so Happy Easter, if you are celebrating. If not, then have a fine weekend.

Hot Noodles and Aged Peeps

For lunch I'm eating leftovers from XO we had last night. XO is a place downtown that has Chinese and Thai food. Make that GREAT Chinese and Thai food. It's in the same block as Mirado's and Little Bohemia and City Market where I first tasted Manchego Cheese!! It's the block from heaven! Except for when you want to park on that block. In which case it is definitely not heaven.

Which reminds me of a story. I once was in the habit of going to Little Panda in Lansing. They have good Chinese. I found out their dishes weren't all that spicy even if they said they were. So one day, all disdainful and young and snooty-like, I placed my order and said "Please, could you make it spicy this time? Your dishes are never spicy!!" I forgot to be nice, and I paid for it. I think they got revenge, because the dish was so painfully hot I could not taste it. It tasted like they used half a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce! I felt like this. (and here, I feel the need to reassure you that I do not look like that picture.)

It taught me a lesson though. So yesterday, when I ordered our food, I was very nice about ordering it extra spicy! I ordered the Singapore Noodles. They said on a scale of 1 - 5, how spicy? I said 4. Well, I'm glad I didn't say 5. Because these noodles are SSSSmokin!!

Dessert: Aged Peeps! Ya, baby!
