Pictures!

Captainwow Never saw The Shining, so this scene didn't give him the willies, but he did get to see this incredible view.

You can see more photos at flickr, if you want.

Captainwow's photo album has been updated with new poses in Colorado.

I still have more photos to upload, believe it or not, but I used up my free account allowance this month. In a few days I can post the rest.

Today I am going to be a baby product student. My good friend is taking me to Babies R Us or some place like that so we can look at baby stuff and she can help me understand what I'm looking at. So far I've spared you the vitriol about how I feel about the commercialization/consumerization of the whole baby having/raising process. Mostly I'll continue to do that, but there is so much CRAP out there that "THEY" say you should have, or simply that one COULD have....I'm going to really appreciate my down to earth experienced friend showing me the way a little bit. She'll help me sort through what are the truly useful and helpful products vs. what could be mostly marketing excrement aimed at clueless new moms like me and - well, people who just love to BUY STUFF. Because we all know that Kids these days just NEED MORE STUFF!!
royt?
Ok I'll shut up now.

Have a groovy weekend!

MST3K

Had the ever so unique experience of watching a Mystery Science Theater DVD the other night. Finally. I've been told this is something I needed to do and that I would find it hilarious. Which I did.

I feel so cool now. Or geeky. I'm not sure which, but it was fun.

Same Song 52nd Verse

Quote for the day: "If I had a hammer, I'd beat myself in the head with it, because that song is still stuck in my damn head." - Jennifer over at Piehole

I can identify with this... I've had the old Beef It's What's For Dinner Theme going through my head. This tune is otherwise known as "Hoe Down" from "Four Dance Episodes" from "Rodeo" written by Aaron Copland.

Which is cool and all, for maybe ONE DAY.
But 2 or 3......?

COME ON!!!!

We're Baaaa-aaaaaack!

I can NOT believe I missed Talk Like a Pirate Day! TOTALLY FORGOT about it!! AAAARRRRRRGHHH!!!
I LOVE Talk Like a Pirate Day.
::sigh::

Anyway, Colorado rocked. And so did a little of Wyoming. We clambered on rocks. (or as much as my preggo self could handle) And we gawked at mountains and we froze our arses off at high altitudes while gasping for air and taking pictures like lunatic tourists.
Ya, it was pretty much way cool.

And the wedding was quite super as well. Byootiful. Stinky and Jermy are Mr. and Mrs. now, after a very lovely ceremony in one of the coolest little churches I've ever seen. It was just so great to be there with everyone and see two people so love each other and be so loved by so many.
WEEE!

And on the flight home - we volunteered to get BUMPED, and BUMP US they DID - scoring us a lot of $$ in travel vouchers and a first class upgrade for our flight home!
SUH-WEEEEEET!

So, there'll be a veritable plethora of pictoral memoriographs posted on flickr as soon as I get to it - you're gonna love the additions to Captainwow's Photo Album.

Warning: Mushy Post!

The next week is going to be very busy for us, so you won't be hearing from me much. We'll be welcoming some friends into our home, and traveling to Colorado for a wedding after that.

Stinky doesn't have a blog anymore, but you may remember her from some time back. She still comments though. Stinky's been my friend since about 1976, and is getting married to her beloved Jermy this Saturday!

Of all the people from school days, she has probably been far away as much as anyone else, yet it was the easiest to keep in touch with her simply because we've always had that connection that never misses a beat. You know, the kind where you just pick up the conversation like the years and the miles haven't been in between at all.

One vacation we camped all over Colorado. We'd set up our campsite every night, look out at the mountains and say "It just don't get no better than this!" And then we'd say "We don't need no stinkin' BOYS!" Well, now we both have our stinkin' boys. And, metaphorically speaking, it's really NICE to have someone else to help haul all that gear up the mountain after all.

Congratulations, my friend - I'm looking forward to celebrating your wedding with you and your man and your family. I love you and wish you the very very best!

(gosh, now what am I going to write in your CARD!? gah!)

In honor of the upcoming wedding I'd like to propose a Poem by David Whyte.

Have a good week, y'all.

The Artist Additionally Known as Captainwow

Captainwow has been experiencing his own private Left Behind series. He meant to go to England, and we meant for him to go, but communication and logistics got tangled and he's still here.

Although he's very happy about the opportunity to travel with us to Colorado to witness the matrimonial ceremony of Marci and Jeremy, he still has had some sense of loss to work through. To process his disappointment about not getting to go to England, we suggested he use some form of artistic expression as a healing agent. He's decided to use the medium of digital photography. He's very proud to share with you the first of his series very simply called "Pea".

Enjoy:

What in the World?

Here is the answer to What in the World from last week:

Painting is by Rick Beerhorst - you may view more of his art here, or read his blog here.

The frame is one he made himself from trim from an old house.

Incidentally, for GR folks, Rick will be in town with his fam, we should get to hear a good concert, I'll post details when I get my act together.

I'll also let you know soon all about his NEW CD, which many of us have been looking forward to.

So, that's the answer to What in the World? Yet another item in the abode of Capatinwow and Amazing Man.

God in Ruins: Family Portrait

A good friend of mine recently wrote this very keen and groovy post: God in Ruins: Family Portrait.

I think you'll like it. I think you'll also like his blog, cuz it's real cool.

Incidentally, thanks to Paul, I now have at least some clue about The Bruderhof.

Which I'm very proud of.

Enjoy the post.......

I don't want no one to squeeze me - they might take away my life

They say never get into a new relationship when you're on the rebound. Yesterday I went out (on the rebound) and picked up some new flip flops. Now that it's morning, I have no respect for them whatsoever.

Strike One: They've embarrassed me in public already, which is simply unacceptable this early in the relationship. As I was turning the corner to leave my office, my foot turned on the soles of them, making an incredibly realistic farting sound. Which would be loads of fun except that it crossed the line and went right on into unfunny because the fart sound was just a little TOO realistic sounding for the office. I had a hard time convincing my co workers that it was the flip flop and not me. I really don't need any help embarrassing myself. I do a fabulous job of it on my own.
So they've got that not going for them.

Strike Two: They're noisy and obnoxious. They FLIP! FLOP! Just a little TOO! LOUD!

Strike Three: They're too clingy. They have elastic in the thong part, which I thought was really cool when we first met but soon realized this caused them to cling too tight and therefore make too much noise. And even when we're just sitting around they're hugging on me like there's no tomorrow. It's insane. I fear I may suffocate if I stay in this relationship.

So that's three strikes... They're OUTTA HERE!

What in the World?

Happy Friday everyone! Another Closeup of an item in my house....

It's Friday. Amazing Man's Mom is coming this weekend for a few days... so I'm sort of doing and sort of NOT doing the Look What a Great Little Wife I am thing and making sure everything is all perfect. The balance here is that right now I honestly don't have the energy to do everything - Amazing Man has been a great help - and, well, if things don't get done they don't get done. She's not the housekeeping police!

So There.

But wait - what's that I see over there? A COBWEB!? Quick, get the cat!
