Clumsy Thankfulness

I'm such a klutz today! We don't try to be all tip toey around when Sam is sleeping because we don't want him to learnbe a light sleeper. But on the other hand, I don't try to make lots of noise, either. But today you would have thought I was trying to sabotage his sleep. I put him down for a nap, he fought sleep like a good little Samurai for a while, but finally gave up and went into nite nite.
So I gleefully ran off to take a shower. Dropped the shampoo bottle. Turned around bent over and knocked a few other things onto the floor - BAM!! Then I started shaving the pits and dropped the shaver - CLUNK! Then I was cleaning the shaver and the blade assembly fell of and CLATTERED around on the floor of the shower. Then as I was walking out of the bathroom to go get dressed I ran into the doorframe BOOM! OWW! @#!!%&!! - So much for being quiet.

Sam slept through all of it.

So I'm thankful for that. I told Mindy I'd do a thankfulness list sometime.
It'll probly be short because I think naptime is almost up. But here are some things:

1. Sam sleeping through loud noises, including our neighbors lighting off firecrackers in the street randomly.

2. Time to take a shower.

3. a cute new little electric shaver

4. coffee

5. Amazing Man

6. Amazing Boy

7. Grandma coming tomorrow to hang with Sam and give me some time off - and Amazing Man and I a night OUT! WEEE!!

8. Good Frenz. My frenz rock like great big rocking things that ROCK.

9. Gonna get my hair cut off tomorrow. Thankful in advance for at least if my hair is going to fall out this much, at least it will be short hairs, not tangly long annoying stupid ones!

10. Reliable cars.

11. Fresh water anytime I want it.

12. Farmer's market 2 blocks away.

13. Dishwasher

14. C-Sections

15. Lunch with Mom tomorrow.

16. Strength and health

Feeling Small

Last night I felt very tiny.
In a cosmic sort of way.

We watched Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton and seeing her in that made me think of her in The Other Sister where she played the neurotic overprotective mom and I thought about how now that I'm a mother it makes perfect sense to me how someone can get quirky and whacked out about their kid.

I thought how inevitable it is that I'll feel that way and how inevitable it also is that our generations will gap. And wow, generations have been gapping for EVER. Ever and ever. I pictured this meandering winding map of the generations gapping all throughout the history of mankind and I wondered how many times it might have looped around and criss crossed itself and how massive the expanse would be if one could actually map this out in some semi-linear fashion.

And I lay there in my bed on my belly with my toes hooked under Amazing Man's ankle, my elbow wedged under his pillow, and my knee on the other side smothered by the cat. With Sam in the other room just on the other side of the wall, I felt at that moment that he was so far away, the world was so big, my bed was so small and I was smaller yet.

So very very small.

Sam and Mocha

Sam's begun taking a great deal of interest in the kitties. Mocha takes some interest in him as well. Hobbes simply ignores him.

In this picture, he's getting a guided introduction to touching Miss Mocha.

Drool slathered little hands attract kitty hair like wet magnets but I guess babies live with animals the world over. I doubt we'll be getting rid of the cats so I better get used to it!

Perty Flowers

Friday Flowers from our front porch and the Salvation Army lawn nearby. I picked the white daisies near the sidewalk while taking a walk with Sam on Friday. I left the daisies outside in the stroller cupholder all day by accident. with no water to sustain them they wilted and I thought they'd never recover. But I put them in water anyway and over the next couple of hours they un-sagged themselves and look beautiful!

Our neighbors have been unintentionally benevolent, watering our back yard by accident. They've strategically placed their sprinkler so perfectly to water the back half of our back yard every night! It's wonderful of them! And our front yard gets watered by default since our next door naighbor to the north of us is uphill and waters her lawn every single day! Ironically, we do nothing with our front yard and it is quite green and lovely looking!

In other news, did you know coffee absorbs odors? Good for us, bad for the coffee. I had some nasty coffee in the cupboard and after I heard this bit of trivia I put some in the bottom of the diaper pail. Lo and behold it smells delicious now! Seriously, it works! And it's been at least a week now. Still smellin lovely in there!
Oh ya. Gotta love that.

Finally, a good use for Folgers.
