Ever Since You Hung Up On Me I'm Hung Up On You

Those of you with Bloglines are gonna love the last accidental-almost-post. Weirdness. I thought:
"Hm I wonder what will happen if I press Enter."
" Oh.... "

It publishes. CRAP!!

Anyway......
It's been a good week - lots going on. Captainwow got to meet a couple of Faithful Blog Readers. Of course they are also good personal friends, so they were here visiting. Captainwow is hanging out on my desk these days in "my office" - which doubles as a guest room. He was just being his adorable self and got fawned over a bit so that made him happy. It's not often he gets to socialize. He's also apparently discovered my box of Tampax. ... gee, I wonder how he got into the bathroom. Could it be he had a little help from Amazing Man? Hmm??

Yesterday was Taking Care of Business Day. Also known as Doing Things I've Put Off Forever For No Good Reason Day. For instance, I finally ordered our wedding prints - nearly a YEAR after the WEDDING! gah! THAT feels terrific! Filled out some much procrastinated paperwork, sent off some checks, arranged for a piano tuning, etc.... less stuff to clutter up my mind and our space. I celebrated by smoking a Djarum, drinking a Coke, and playing 2 games of Settlers on line.

Which I lost. feh.

Today is Take the Lawn Mower in for a Tune Up Day and Piano Tuning Day.
(and later - Sushi Night!)
I'm thinking I might feel ridiculous walking the mower down to the repair shop but there's no point driving, it's so close. I could put a leash on it and carry a poop bag, maybe people will think it's a dog.
- or maybe they'll think *I* think it's a dog.... better yet. I could wear all my clothing inside out to add to the illusion of madness....

Born

Rick played this song for us on Sunday night a few weeks ago that I really liked. I explored the band a little more after that and really found I like most of their music. Maybe you've heard of Over the Rhine. I had heard of them but wasn't really aware until now.

Last night we bought the CD Drunkards Prayer - their newest CD and today I found out that the track Rick played for us is on their website as an MP3. If you want to hear it, go to Over the Rhine and click on the link for BORN, about half way down the left hand side of the screen.

The story behind this song is that this couple (Karin and Linford - two of the artists on this CD) had decided they had been investing all their creative energy into their band and their music while their marriage was getting more and more fragile. So they made a decision to quit the tour they were on, go home and begin to invest in their marriage with that level of intensity. So they bought a couple of cases of wine and each night put one bottle on the table and talked and drank it - not to get plowed but to talk into the night and say whatever needed to be said.

It struck me I've experienced this - in a "whatever you've got I don't mind" and "I'll listen long as I am able" kind of way. I think it's what we want in all of our intimate relationships. I'm grateful for those in my life who invite me to talk and laugh with them as long as it takes and they are patient with me as I am trying to learn to love without fear.

So on whatever level you might find meaning in this I wanted to share it with you, and I hope it blesses you too.

Born
Bergquist/Detweiler

I was born to laugh
I learned to laugh through my tears
I was born to love
I'm gonna learn to love without fear

Pour me a glass of wine
Talk deep into the night
Who knows what we'll find

Intuition, deja vu
The Holy Ghost haunting you
Whatever you got
I don't mind

Put your elbows on the table
I'll listen long as I am able
There's nowhere I'd rather be

Secret fears, the supernatural
Thank God for this new laughter
Thank God the joke's on me

We've seen the landfill rainbow
We've seen the junkyard of love
Baby it's no place for you and me

I was born to laugh
I learned to laugh through my tears
I was born to love
I'm gonna learn to love without fear

Photos

Captainwow had a terrific drive home from Florida. Here are some more photos from Georgia and Tennessee.

It was great to "unplug". We had great weather and driving and super scenery.

411 Connect: 411 Connect, City and State Please.

Me: I'm looking for a Starbucks in - where are we again? Athens, Tennessee.

411 Connect: No Ma'am, I'm sorry. There is not a Starbucks within 50 miles of you.

Me: Crap.

Sometimes I Hate Blogger and Other Random Thoughts

Haven't been able to get on Blogger for a couple of days and still can't comment on any blogger comments so if you wrote a post that you thought I might have read but didn't comment, then it's not personal, I just can't. Note: Blogger's spellcheck always wants to replace the word Blogger with Blocker.
appropriate, sometimes. grrr.

  • Movie Recommendation: I Am David. It's about a little boy who escapes from a
forced labor camp and finds trust and freedom and love. Very good - poignant,
    slow paced and artfully done.
  • Salad Recommendation: Lettuce, Hot Dog pieces, cheddar cheese, olives, cucumber, sunflower seeds, carrot, celery and balsamic vinegar dressing.
    YUM!
  • Activity Recommendation: Go walk around Aquinas College. It's real
purdy this time of year. Try hard to get mud on your shoes at some point.
  • Workout Recommendation: Go play on playground equipment. Remember how
much fun that was? And it works every muscle group.
  • Ennui Recommendation: Laundry. Gotta go get on it.

And I'll be gone for a few days, so don't miss me too much. Mom's been in Florida for the winter and I'll be flying down to hang with her for a couple days and drive home with her. That will be fun. The last time I made the trip to and from Florida in a car I was a typical angsty adolescent and the last thing I wanted to do was be packed into a car with my family for that long. FEH! Consequently, I never noticed the scenery. I'm looking forward to some quality time with my mom, seeing my bro who lives down there too, and experiencing a more mature awareness of the landscape!
